X Group and Y Group: Indian Air Force is, therefore, the most royal defence branch of Indian defence. Also, the pride of the Indian Air Force are their airmen. Airmen of the Indian Air Force are also called Persons Below Officer Rank (PBOR). The Airmen are, therefore, divided into two groups- Group X and Group Y. Airmen in Group X work in technical fields according to their trade whereas Airmen in Group Y work in other non-technical streams.

Initial Salaries in each Group
The Airmen in both groups also have to undergo training after their selection. Hence, in this training period, all Airmen are given a stipend of Rs 14,600. After the training period is over, Airmen in Group X serve with Rs 33,100/ month as a starting salary, whereas Airmen in Group Y serve with Rs 26,900/ month. Military Service Pay is also given to all the Airmen on a monthly basis.
Pre-Requirements
General Requirements
The applying candidate, therefore, must be male, single and between 17-21 years of age. He must be either an Indian or Nepalese national.
Educational Requirements
Group X (Except Education Instructor)
The candidate can either pass 12th standard with Mathematics, Physics and English as compulsory subjects scoring at least a 50% in English and a minimum aggregate of 50%. The candidate is also qualified if they have passed a 3 years Diploma in Engineering, in any stream, from a recognised Polytechnic Institute with an aggregate of at least 50% and a 50% in English in the Diploma course.
Group Y (Except Medical Assistant)
The candidate should have passed 12th standard with Mathematics, Physics and English as compulsory subjects scoring at least a 50% in English and a minimum aggregate of 50% and for Medical Assistants, they need to have Biology as a compulsory subject too.
