CDS 1 2021 Live Notifications: Exam date, Admit Card, Syllabus and more: Every other defence aspirant dreams to join the service to protect the nation. There are many ways to join the service and therefore, one of them is by giving the CDS exam. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) also conducts a bi-yearly exam called Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination. Therefore, this exam is conducted for recruiting Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force. The candidates selected post this examination have to then undergo training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA). The exam is, therefore, usually held in February and September each year. Due to the lockdown, the exam of February 2020 was postponed to November.

Therefore, the date for upcoming CDS 1 2021 has been announced as February 7, 2021.

CDS Selection Process

  1. Release of Application Form: The application form is available online, whereas fee payment can then pay either offline or online. Some candidates like Scheduled castes, also, females are exempt from fee payment. 
  2. Issue of Admit card: The candidates can also download and print the online issued admit card from their official online portal.
  3. Written Exam: The candidates who have filled the application form then appear for the written examination which is divided into three sections and carries a total of 300 marks.
  4. SSB Interview: The interview is taken in two steps, namely the Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test and also, only those candidates who pass the first round are called up for the second stage. 
  5. Final Selection: Candidates are, therefore, selected based on their written examination and SSB interview. After their selection, they also have to undergo training at the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad. 

Syllabus for the Indian Air Force Recruitment

The exam pattern for CDS 1 2021 has been divided into 2 sections:

  1. Written Examination
  2. Intelligence and Personal Interview

Hence, the written examination for the Indian Air Force consists of 3 papers of 2 hours each, all carrying a weightage of 100 marks. The papers and their syllabus are:

  1. English- hence, the syllabus is Basic Grammar, Synonyms, Antonyms, Comprehension Solving, Error Spotting, Para Jumbles. 
  2. General Knowledge- Current affairs of the last 4-5 months from the examination date, History, Physics, Biology, Geography, Political Science.
  3. Elementary Mathematics- Therefore the syllabus is: Natural numbers, Integers, Percentages, Rational and Real numbers, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Prime and Composite numbers, Simple and Compound interest, HCF and LCM, Euclidean Algorithm, Geometry, Logarithms, Trigonometry, Statistics, Mensuration. 

Eligibility Criteria for Indian Air Force Recruitment

The candidates applying must be between 19-24 years of age as on January 2, 1998, and not later than January 1, 2003. The applying candidate can be either a married or an unmarried male. They also must possess a B.Tech or Engineering degree from a recognised university. The candidate is also required to have taken Maths and Physics in their 12th board examination. Apart from this, the candidates must be physically and also mentally fit according to the standard of physical fitness as released in the notification to be eligible to appear for the CDS exam.

Conclusion

The exam is easier as compared to other military exams, like the AFCAT, NDA etc. There is also a special entry for NCC Certificate holders. Candidates can also apply to appear for the exam just after graduation or in their final year. Since the exam is held twice a year, it gives a flexible timeline for applicants to prepare themselves for it. Also, the admit card is available on the website of UPSC now for CDS 1 2021.
